Edoardo Sinibaldi obtained a BSc/MSc in Aerospace Engineering (with Honors) in 2002, from the University of Pisa (Pisa, Italy), once completed an internship at Rolls-Royce plc (Derby, UK) for which he had been individually selected, and during which he studied computational geometry methods for air-breathing engines. In 2006, Edoardo obtained a Ph.D. in Mathematics for Technology and Industry (with Honors) from Scuola Normale Superiore (Pisa), where he developed numerical schemes for computational fluid dynamics, with application to high-performance computing of cavitating flows in liquid-propellant rocket engines. Then he moved to Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Pisa; The BioRobotics Institute), where his post-doctoral fellowship was capitalized for competitive fundraising and project technical management, with funding obtained for both national and European projects.

In 2010, once passed to the Italian Institute of Technology (iit; Genoa, Italy), he undertook his research activity, centered in the scope of bioengineering/biorobotics, in particular for biomedical and soft-robotic systems/applications, with growing interest in magnetics and physical intelligence. Edoardo is a solid and creative scientist (framed by iit through fixed-term contracts as senior post-doc/researcher until 2018, then through a permanent contract as chief technician in the Bioinspired Soft Robotics research area), who strategically bridges curiosity-driven and application-oriented investigations, via physics-based modeling and model-based design. Since 2017, he also holds two national scientific qualifications as Associate Professor (namely for Applied Mechanics, and for Bioengineering), also stemming from his continuous dedication to complementary academic teaching and mentoring of students and young researchers/innovators, at both national and international level.

Edoardo authored ~65 papers on international journals (all of them being research papers, with the only exception of 1 review), ~20 papers on international conferences and 3 book chapters (most of the above publications address bioengineering/biorobotics topics). He also authored 1 book (on numerical methods for the simulation of a class of fluids of both theoretical and applicative interest) and 8 patents (mostly for biomedical applications). Moreover, he serves as reviewer for ~90 international journals, besides international conferences and research proposals (European Research Council, Swiss National Science Foundation, Dutch Research Council, Hong Kong Research Grants Council), and as associate/academic editor for international journals (including Scientific Reports, Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology and PLOS ONE). Researchers and external stakeholders are increasingly remarking that, in order to properly frame a scientific profile, concise database records/indicators should be complemented with contextual details (including, e.g., resource allocation and research organization/collaboration mechanisms, besides factors incidental to the specific working environments). For this reason, Edoardo would be glad to deepen any further aspects of his scientific profile, production, indicators and achievements, including, e.g., enabling and/or (co-)leading scientific contributions he provided in collaborative works (particularly those featuring some other colleagues as last author).

Edoardo also edited and co-authored 1 popular-science book (in Italian) aimed at spurring interest in mathematical beauty, through short texts/puzzles (sometimes linked to the Italian Mathematical Olympiad), images, and an original intertwining of problem-solving and creativity. Keen on sports and fine arts, he deeply loves music, to which he dedicated himself with passion even during the years of studying piano at the conservatory.

[I aim to develop meaningful relationships, collaborations and dialogue: hence, please, feel free to contact me (in person or by email, at edoardo.sinibaldi[AT]iit.it) for any further interactions; thank you!]
